Majority of us unknowingly destroy our vehicles. This kind of downfall can in fact be prohibited. Use the brakes when you park on an incline, or even on fairly steady ground. Otherwise, it puts all of the stress of the vehicle on your transmission. If you habitually do this, you keep adding months of wear to your transmission in a matter of seconds. Inside your transmission is a complex set of gears. When you shift without stopping, these gears may have to work as brakes and ruin the transmission and suspension. If you are driving down a steep incline or a hill that seems to be never ending, avoid riding the brakes all the time. Riding on the brakes quickly heats up the brake pads and totally wears out the brake pads. Brake pads wear out faster when they are heated up. Go down a hill in a lower gear.
You need to change the oil every 5,000 miles. Do not wait until the oil light flashes by the time the oil light comes on, the oil inside your engine would have turned slick tar, if you can frequently change oil it can actually double the life of your vehicle while increasing its performance.
Does not pressure wash it, it is dangerous for engine car parts, a modern engine is a complex device with sensitive parts like electricals, sensors, wiring harnesses and components that are not made to take high pressure water jets. You can as well use a regular garden hose which may prove gentler than high pressure jets.
Do not start your vehicle with the consumables - the radio, lighting, wipers and climate control on etc. Start only the engine and idle for 3 – 5 minutes before switching anything else on and before driving especially if it hasn’t been used for a few hours and is cold.
Revving engine in winter doesn’t help “warm up” a vehicle, but only makes its engine hotter. Revving your engine in the winter causes sudden and extreme temperature changes.
Listen to your vehicle. Every sound your vehicle makes is a cry for help. If you pay attention, you can actually understand what it needs. Squeaking of brakes means they need new pads.. Drive your vehicle without the music system from time to time.
Running on empty leads to the formation of sediment in the fuel tank, this gets sucked into the system and foul fuel injectors. Besides, life of the fuel pump gets drastically reduced since there is not enough fuel in the tank to cool it. Check your vehicle to see if there is a ‘bufferzone’ to drive on empty.
Keep the interior of your vehicle neat and clean. Drive carefully and avoid diversions while driving.
